2-Day Large-Scale Installations For Events, Weddings & Corporate with Juan Villanueva

May 9 - May 10

Large Scale Installations for All Events

FlowerSchool’s large scale installation program instructs students on the pricing, sustainable methods, structural components and workflow for large scale installations designs work.  This program is hands on and students will set up and break down all of their work and therefore become proficient in the entire mechanics of large scale floral installations.

Class 16: Monumental Urn Arrangements (Tuesday, 10am – 1pm)

In this class, students will learn how to decorate a ceremony site with large-scale, 180-degree arrangements. After a short discussion on vessel choice and scale of arrangements, the instructor will demonstrate how to prep a large-scale container with chicken wire, and create a three-sided arrangement that is structurally balanced, 3-6 meters tall and stunningly beautiful!  Students will work in groups to create large-scale arrangements.

Class 17: Elevated Centerpiece Design (Tuesday, 2pm – 5pm)

This class will feature elevated designs for events or weddings. This style allows for a floral component to be raised at least 24 inches off the table and viewed from all sides (360 degrees), which greatly changes the orientation and viewpoint of the design. In teams of two, students will create their own elevated centerpiece and must concentrate on the viewer’s perspective as well as making a perfectly round design.

This design can be done without Oasis foam with a bit of creativity and engineering.

Class 18: Chuppahs & Flowering Arch (Wednesday, 10am – 1pm)

Floral Installations are a centerpiece to today’s contemporary floral design offerings.  These event specific structures become magnificent when adorned with flowers and branches.  The challenge presented is making sure it’s easy to do, cost effective and still looks grand.  This class will give everyone a chance to work on a modern design and a wild asymmetric styled installation.

Class 19:  Hanging Chandelier (Wednesday, 2pm – 5pm)

Some of the most challenging yet rewarding designs are large-scale floral installations, which evoke awe in viewers and make a true statement. These installations can be seen at personal and public events such as the Ace Awards and much more.

In this all-day workshop we will pull back the curtain on large-scale designs discussing real-world logistics, construction, pricing, installation practices and managing client expectations when it comes to over-the-top design. Together students will create a large-scale flower wall and hanging chandelier that will teach the best techniques for these ever challenging design concepts.

In this class, students will learn:

  • Large-scale design concepts and ideas
  • Mechanics know-how to re-create structures in your own practice
  • Logistics and installation when implementing large-scale designs to avoid pitfalls
  • Square-foot pricing blueprint for proposals
  • Hands-on installation of a flower chandelier
